A Parade of Skunks

One summer, Rebecca and I decided to take a different route to Emma Lake from Calgary and Edmonton, Alberta, where we were living. We drove straight east from Edmonton stopping close to Turtle Lake, Saskatchewan to spend the night and paint. We were on a narrow gravel road when we found a place to turn off and park. It wasn’t the most ideal situation and we had very little space, so we each set up on opposite sides of the vehicle. Suddenly Rebecca shouted, “Cathy! Don’t move! Don’t make any sudden movements! There are skunks behind us, marching this way!” I stood very still as a mother skunk and her three babies walked between us, under the van, and onwards in one straight line, their tails pointed up, perpendicular to the ground.

For archival purposes and future public exhibitions the artist would like to invite collectors of her work, if they are interested, to share their names, the title, medium, year of the painting they own and contact information with her in order to facilitate potential curatorial research. Due to the closing of many commercial galleries previously exhibiting her work information pertaining to the location of earlier paintings has been lost. This information would be kept confidential in the artist’s records unless there was a request for a specific art work to be included in a public exhibition at which time the collector would be contacted for permission.
